Plenty Road Upgrade – Victoria

The Victorian Government has allocated $139.4 million to the Plenty Road Upgrade in Mills Park, Victoria.

“We’re investing in the local roads that people in Melbourne’s north rely on every day. Whether it’s Plenty Road, Yan Yean Road, O’Herns Road or the M80 Ring Road, we’re building the roads these growing communities needs…” Luke Donnellan – Minister for Roads and Road Safety

VicRoads have awarded a $29 million dollar contract for the upgrade to DECMIL, a multi-disciplinary company that specialises in complex project delivery.

Works to be Undertaken

True to his word, the works that will take place in Mills Park, roughly 20km north of Melbourne between McKimmies Road and Bush Boulevard. Works will include:

  • Bike Land and Safety Barrier installation to improve safety for all road users
  • Intersection improvement at mcKimmies Road, Mayfield Drive, Childs Road, Rivergum Drive, Centenary Drive and Bush Boulevard
  • Road widening works to increase McKimmies Road and Bush Boulevard from four to six lanes and Riverdale Boulevard to Bridge Inn Road from two to four lanes

Stage 1 – McKimmies Road to Bush Boulevard is set to begin early in 2019, with early works of relocating utilities are currently underway to be completed by the end of the year.

Stage 2 – Bush Boulevard to Bridge Inn Road is currently undergoing finalisation of timeframes and delivery methods.

Benefits of the Work

According to VicRoads, between 35,000 to 52,000 vehicles use Plenty Road every day, creating heavy congestion for users. When the works are completed, the travel will be faster, smoother and safer for everyone on the road, as well as improve access to local facilities such as shops, schools and parks.
