Cross River Rail – Queensland

The Cross River Rail (CRR) was first proposed in 2010, labelled a High Priority Initiative by Infrastructure Australia. Eight years on, the Queensland Government have completed a business case* study, investigations and created policies in an effort to get the project ready. After the changes were made to the initial plan, the following works have been confirmed to be included:

  • 10.2 km of rail between Dutton Park and Bowen Hill
  • 5.9km of twin tunnels under Brisbane CBD and Brisbane River
  • 5 new stations (4 underground stations) at Boggo Road, Wolloongabba, Albert St and Exhibition

Benefits of the Project

  • A train every 2 to 5 minutes during peak hour
  • Over 1000+ additional seats during peak hour; trains from Brisbane with up to 17,000+ additional seats
  • Allows for possible future rail extensions

TSD – Tunnel, Stations and Development

A shortlist has already been put together for the TSD Works. This section will include the tunnelling works between Dutton Park to Normandy, 5 new stations and underground utilities, track work and infrastructure works. The shortlisted contractors are:

RIS – Rail, Integration and Systems Alliance

This section of works deals with the designing, supply management and installing the supporting rail systems required for the project. The contractors that will be awarded this section of works will handle all the civil rail and electrical works, rail operations, systems and controls as well as all the necessary rail signalling and communications. The shortlist includes:

Early works have already begun at Woolloongabba in the rail corridor including the demolition and site remediation of the Goprint Building, planned demolition of the South Brisbane Dental Hospital and Landcentre. The space planned for demolition is being cleared to make space for the Tunnel Boring Machine required for the Cross River Rail.
